Origins

Xanadu Island Resort was built in the summer of 1998. Having travelled extensively over the years, Ivan and Judy Sheinbaum began creating Xanadu - a Monolithic Dome tropical island resort on Ambergris Caye, in the West Caribbean nation of Belize. Each dome (or suite) was built as if it was their own home and the structures are engineered to combat any form of extreme weather.
The name Xanadu came from the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, dating back to 1797.  He had a dream after reading work describing Xanadu, the summer palace of the Mongol ruler and Emperor of China Kublai Khan, and wrote a poem citing "Xanadu" as his imagined paradise.

The Review

Xanadu Island resort is a beautiful, tropical getaway hidden in the middle of San Pedro. With a limited number of rooms, guests can experience exclusivity, privacy and complete serenity during their stay. With a stunning waterfall at its entrance, surrounded by tropical, indigenous gardens, guests are transported to what feels like a jungle paradise.
Just steps away from the turquoise Caribbean ocean, each room boasts panoramic views of the sea, garden or pool. The resort offers a variety of suites, each with differing characteristics and views of the surrounding landscape. Every room has its own private deck with table, chairs and a hammock. Guests are able to sit, enjoy the ocean view and eat a fresh pastry breakfast, bought from the local bakery. Guests are provided with a fully equipped kitchen, allowing you to cater to your own needs. There is also a beach BBQ station. Whilst the resort does not give home to its own restaurant or bar, you can take a relaxing stroll along the beach, where you will find an array of local restaurants to dine in.
Guests can delight in the sweeping sea views and cool breeze whilst having a dip in the solar-heated, fresh water pool with its natural stones, shady coconut palms and comfy lounge chairs. The resort also provides spa services, offering aromatherapy, hot stone, deep tissue, and couples massages in the privacy of your own suite or in the spa itself.
For those wanting to explore the island, Xanadu provides bicycles, kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel equipment for the complimentary use of their guests. Xanadu prides itself in being an eco-friendly, green resort. As such, half the property has been left under natural vegetation, providing guests with a nature walk, where they can find birds, lizards, iguanas and crabs residing in their natural habitat.
